Elderly Man Adopts a Cat to Fight Loneliness After Losing His Wife
An elderly guy who visited his local pet shop to adopt a stray cat on the same day as his wife’s funeral has touched the hearts of people online. Gary Pitel, 90, and his wife Joan, 86, were wed for 59 years. However, he and his family were worried that he would be lonely after she died. This long-term pair had travelled and done everything together.
He made a comment about wanting a cat as soon as possible at the luncheon held following Jean’s funeral. So he made his way to a nearby pet shop with his family in order to get a cat.
He noticed a white cat named Evita as soon as they entered their local PetSmart. But after locating a cat that Gary believed would make the ideal friend, he had to pass the adoption tests. His frightened family cautioned him against getting his hopes up because he might not get accepted.
They didn’t need to worry, though, since he was approved a day later, allowing Gary to properly meet his new buddy.
A sentimental Gary immediately gave her the nickname Joansie, after his late wife. But he eventually settled on the name Eva, and the two have become inseparable.
Eva, a two-year-old, loves Gary, she follows him around the house and naps on his side of the bed every night. Madison, Gary’s granddaughter, captured his journey on camera, arranged the footage, and posted them on social media.
